Skip the News
If you turn on the television in the U.S., you'll likely be inundated with violent and shocking images. Our nightly news programs have seemingly turned into a daily body count, pointing out only the horrifically negative things that occurred in the world today.
Is this really what you want to spend your time and energy watching?
It's very easy to develop a pessimistic outlook on life if you watch the news every night. They seem to love showing humanity at its very worst - because of the shock value, and because it sells. For whatever reason, little if any attention is given to inspirational or 'feel-good' stories. We know the world isn't all bad and terrible, so why watch a program to focuses so heavily on the awful stuff?
You don't have to! You can choose to watch any programs you'd like. I personally stopped watching the news way back in high school, when I found myself becoming so depressed and paranoid hearing about all of the crime and violence in my own community.
Not having that daily 30 minute update on the horrible things in my community has greatly improved my outlook on life. Sure I know those things exist, but that doesn't mean I have to spend any of my time focusing or worrying about them. Time is much better spent remembering all of the wonderful things that are out there, and being hopeful, not fearful, of our future.
Cheers!
