
The break alarm!
If you're like most of us overworked American office workers, your day passes by in a dizzying blur of status reports, e-mails, meetings, and constant stress. Often we get so busy and involved in our work that we forget to eat, let alone take much needed breaks.
If this sounds familiar, technology can help!
The other day, a friend of mine who works long hours in front of a computer and suffers from nagging back and neck injuries (due to improper posture and stress at work) shared a cool website with me, Workrave.
This is free software that enables you to set alarms and reminders at specific times throughout the day. My friend uses this to ensure he does his exercises and stretches for his neck problems every hour. However, you can set the alarm for whatever purpose you'd like. And as you've probably guessed, I'm recommending you use this program to remind yourself to take breaks and get away from your computer!
The really cool part of this program is that you can actually set it so you lock yourself out of your computer, thus forcing you to take a break and chill out! I have no affiliation with this program, but think it's a wonderful idea for those of us who can't seem to stick to taking regular breaks from our work.
