Spend some time in silence every day
I just returned from a trip to my friend's wedding, parlayed into a mini-vacation for myself. There was so much planned and going on during the trip, and I was rarely alone, so I only meditated once over the course of a week.
When I finally returned home and got back into my normal meditation routine, boy was I rusty!
What my break from regular meditation taught me was the importance of practicing meditation or at least sitting alone in silence on a daily basis. When you get out of this regular routine, more and more stress and unhealthy thoughts build up so it become more difficult to reach a deep relaxed state.
Finally this morning, after my 3rd consecutive day of meditating, was I able to reach that deep relaxed state of mind I seek. Basically, I had to flush out a week of garbage over the course of 3 days until my mind finally returned to the regular quiet state I try to maintain in meditation.
So the moral of the story, no matter where you are or what's going on, always try to make time to meditate or at least spend some time alone in silence. You will be rewarded with a calmer, quieter mind.
Cheers!
